Lawyers for embattled former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta have responded to a summons from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), explaining that their client is currently abroad undergoing medical treatment.
In a letter dated January 31, 2025, the lawyers stated that Ofori-Atta had been out of the country and unaware of the OSP’s letter, which was left at his security post on January 24, 2025.
The letter invited Ofori-Atta to attend a meeting at the OSP’s office on February 10, 2025.
According to the lawyers, Ofori-Atta had informed both the former and current Chief of Staff of his medical trip in early January.
They assured the OSP that Ofori-Atta would return to Ghana and reschedule the meeting once his medical treatment is complete.
“We shall give you notice of his arrival in the country so as to reschedule your invitation to him for the purposes as stated in the heading of your letter under reference,” the lawyers stated.
The OSP had declared Ofori-Atta a wanted person, citing his failure to respond to invitations for questioning in connection with several investigations, including the National Cathedral project and the SML-GRA deal.
However, the lawyers disputed this claim, stating that they are “able and willing to provide you with any information you may require to aid in your investigations until our client is back in the country”
