The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tempane, Joseph Mbilla, has revealed that the District Security Council (DISEC) suspected a possible border invasion prior to the recent attack on immigration officers at Nagani, a community near the Ghana–Togo border.
According to Mr. Mbilla, the suspicion prompted the Council to invite the Ghana Armed Forces to intensify patrols along the border to forestall any potential security breach.
Nagani, where the officers were ambushed and attacked, serves as a strategic border post for monitoring cross-border movement.
The officers stationed there are responsible for routine checks on entry and exit between Ghana and Togo.
However, the DCE confirmed that following the attack, the military moved into Basyonde market, where some residents reportedly suffered assaults. Several people sustained injuries, while others fled the market square, abandoning their goods in the process.
Mr. Mbilla said calm has since been restored in the area, adding that the injured are receiving medical treatment. He assured residents that security agencies are working to maintain peace and stability along the border.
