As frustration grows over recent power outages, Energy Minister John Jinapor is promising a different approach: honesty and regular communication.
Speaking during a government accountability briefing, Jinapor acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the disruptions but insisted that Ghanaians deserve clear and timely information.
“We will not live in denial. When there are challenges, we will tell you,” he said.
Unlike traditional load shedding, where outages are scheduled in advance, the current situation is constantly changing as engineers work to restore damaged systems. This means fixed weekly timetables are not feasible.
Instead, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is issuing short-term outage schedules, sometimes covering just a few hours, and updating them frequently as more power becomes available.
The minister emphasized that transparency is key to maintaining public trust, especially during difficult periods.
He added that while the situation is challenging, it is temporary, and every effort is being made to restore stable power as quickly as possible.
