President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to improving Ghana’s educational system, emphasizing the need for inclusive and quality education for all citizens.
In his speech at the 92nd Annual Jalsa Salana, Mahama promised to build on the success of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy while addressing some of the challenges that have arisen, such as overcrowding and insufficient infrastructure.
Mahama also focused on the importance of technical vocational education and training (TVET) in equipping the youth with the skills needed to thrive in the rapidly changing global economy.
He argued that technical education would be crucial in providing skilled workers for industries and businesses across Ghana.
As part of his government’s education reforms, Mahama proposed the creation of a National Education Review Conference to assess and improve Ghana’s educational system from kindergarten through tertiary levels. This conference, he stated, would identify the barriers to quality education and offer solutions to overcome them.
Mahama’s vision for education is one that emphasizes equity, with plans to reduce disparities in access to quality education, especially in rural and underserved communities.
His administration will continue to strengthen the Free SHS policy and invest in the development of educational infrastructure, ensuring that every Ghanaian child receives a high-quality education, regardless of their socio-economic background.
