We’ll uncap the NHIS Levy – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing Ghana’s healthcare system, pledging to continue making significant improvements across the sector during his recent Thank You Tour in the Central Region.

Addressing a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, President Mahama emphasized the government’s ongoing focus on upgrading healthcare infrastructure and ensuring accessible, quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.

“We will continue to improve our hospitals and healthcare facilities at all levels,” he assured, reiterating that the well-being of every citizen remains a priority for his administration.

In a strategic move to strengthen the National Health Insurance Scheme, Mahama revealed plans to uncap the National Health Insurance Levy, allowing the full amount of the levy to go directly to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

This, he explained, would ensure healthcare facilities are fully compensated for providing treatment to individuals covered under the National Health Insurance Card.

Additionally, President Mahama announced the launch of the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund, also known as Mahama Cares, which aims to assist individuals with chronic conditions such as kidney and liver diseases, high blood pressure, and cardiac problems.

“The Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund will alleviate the financial burden on patients and their families by supporting the treatment of long-term illnesses,” Mahama said.

As President Mahama’s Thank You Tour continues, his promises of further investment in healthcare have struck a chord with many, further cementing his government’s focus on improving the health and well-being of Ghanaians across the nation.
