We’ve not reviewed prices at premium centres – NIA clarifies misinformation on Ghana Card fees

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has dismissed claims that it has introduced new fees for Ghana card services at premium centres.

According to the NIA, a recent publication by the Daily Graphic, dated February 4, 2025, contained false information that sparked public uproar.

“The statement by Daily Graphic is false and untrue,” the NIA emphasized in a statement.

The NIA explained that it had posted certain fees and charges on its Facebook page based on frequently asked questions, but this was misconstrued as a revision of fees and charges.

The Authority clarified that the said fees and charges were approved by Parliament in 2023 and have not been reviewed since.

“It is important to note that all fees and charges reviews are done solely with the approval of Parliament and not by the Authority,” the NIA stated.

The NIA further explained that the fees and charges posted on its Facebook page apply only to premium centers, while district offices remain free for all first issuance processes.

“We entreat all media houses to verify the authenticity of information before the dissemination of same,” the NIA urged.

“The NIA stands committed to serving the public and the nation as a whole with respect, dignity, integrity, and efficiency as a dedicated and responsible public sector institution.”

The NIA’s clarification comes amid growing concerns over the spread of misinformation on social media platforms.

The Authority emphasized on the importance of verifying information before dissemination serves as a reminder to media outlets and the general public to be cautious when sharing sensitive information.
