The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has dismissed allegations made by the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George that technical staff who worked on the African Games have not been paid.
In a statement signed by Director-General, Prof. Amin Alhassan, GBC emphasized: “There are no outstanding payments to local technicians who were engaged by GBC to work on the African Games. All payments to local service providers have been effected.”
The state broadcaster noted that “most of the technicians who worked on the African games have still not been paid,” GBC assured
“All payments to local service providers have been effected.”
Prof. Amin Alhassan further intimated that GBC staff deployed to the games location received a daily subsistence allowance of GH¢100 each, with no outstanding payments.
“Only staff who were at games location were paid. There are no outstanding payments to be effected,” Prof. Alhassan stressed.
The statement noted that GBC outsourced technical production to PGS, Quality Media Production S.L., and The Production Room (TPR), as it lacked the necessary equipment.
The GBC Director-General also rejected claims made by Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif that the corporation received ‘in excess of three million US dollars’.
He said the corporation received $105,000 for its role as Official Broadcaster, not $3 million as alleged.
