The government has allocated GHS34.22 billion to the health sector in the 2026 Budget, a figure that represents 11.3 percent of total national spending and marks the highest commitment to health in recent years.
The amount reflects a 9.4 percent increase over the 2023 allocation and signals what officials describe as a sustained prioritisation of health as a foundation for national development.
Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh made the announcement on Monday December 1, 2025 during the Government Accountability Series in Accra.
He said the investment is intended to strengthen essential services, expand access to care and ensure that health plays its full role in supporting economic and social progress.
According to the minister, the government views the growing allocation as evidence of its responsibility to protect citizens and equip the health system to respond effectively to both ongoing and emerging challenges.
He added that the ministry will continue to work with stakeholders to ensure that the increased funding delivers measurable improvements in facilities, workforce readiness and community health outcomes.
The minister urged the public to track the progress of the investment, emphasising that transparency and accountability remain central to government policy.
