Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called on Ghanaians to take collective responsibility for protecting the country’s historic forts and castles, stressing that they must be preserved and passed on to future generations.
She made the call at the launch of the Ghana-Korea Heritage Project, a five-year initiative focused on protecting six historic forts and castles in Accra from climate-related threats such as coastal erosion and increased rainfall.
The partnership will combine Ghana’s rich heritage with Korean digital technologies and scientific expertise to strengthen conservation, documentation, research, capacity building, community participation and cultural tourism.
The project, running through 2030, is also expected to deepen Ghana-Korea cultural ties and demonstrate how international cooperation and technology can help safeguard heritage for generations to come.
The launch culminated in the unveiling of the Korea-Ghana Heritage Conservation Project plaque at the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, marking the formal commencement of the partnership.
