Winfried Schaeffer arrives in Ghana to begin Black Stars Technical Advisor role

Winfried Schaeffer has arrived in Ghana to begin his role as Technical Advisor for the Black Stars, a huge boost for next month’s FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

The German coach landed in Accra on Monday night, where he was welcomed by Black Stars Assistant Coach Desmond Ofei.

Schaeffer, who was appointed in January, will provide technical guidance and oversee the development of football in Ghana. His responsibilities include working closely with the Technical Directorate to develop and implement long-term strategic plans for the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

With a managerial career spanning over 40 years, Schaeffer brings a wealth of experience to the Black Stars. His career highlights include winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon in 2002.

Ghana is set to face Chad and Madagascar in crucial World Cup qualifiers in March, and Schaeffer’s expertise will be pivotal in the team’s pursuit of qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Currently, the Black Stars sit in second place in their World Cup qualification group with 9 points from 4 matches, level on points with first-placed Comoros, but trailing by 2 goals.
