The Minority Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly opposed proposed amendments to the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI 2180) that would allow certain public officials, including Ministers of State and Members of Parliament, to use sirens on the road and be exempt from speed limits.
Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson issued a statement instructing all members of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee to strongly oppose the revisions at the committee level.
Furthermore, all 137 NDC Members of Parliament have been instructed to vote en bloc against the Legislative Instrument when it comes to the floor.
It also stated that the government should focus its efforts on addressing the major issues confronting Ghanaians today, such as the high cost of living, food inflation, unemployment, the high cost of fuel, the Cedi’s depreciation, and the high tax regime, which is forcing businesses to relocate to neighboring West African countries.
Finally, the Minority has asked the Minister of Transport to remove the Legislative Instrument before it becomes law after 21 sitting days.
