A 38-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a senior police officer and defrauding the family of her late boyfriend, a police inspector.
The suspect, Sarah Wilson, also known as Maame Esi, is accused of using a voice changing application known as “Magic Voice” to pose as the Central North Regional Police Commander and solicit money from the deceased officer’s father.
According to reports, Wilson contacted the bereaved father and claimed money was needed to facilitate funeral arrangements and secure a death certificate for his son. Believing he was speaking to a senior police officer, the father reportedly transferred GH¢2,000 as requested.
She allegedly later demanded an additional GH¢2,000, claiming it was urgently needed to complete further official processes.
The second request raised suspicion, prompting the deceased inspector’s father to report the matter to the police.
An investigation was subsequently launched, leading to Wilson’s arrest.
Police sources say the suspect admitted to the offence during questioning.
The case is expected to proceed through the legal process as investigations continue.
