Wontumi not on hunger strike, he refuses food due to safety concerns – Beatrice Annan

A communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Beatrice Annan, has refuted claims that the Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is on hunger strike.

According to her, Wontumi has chosen not to accept food from his party supporters due to concerns about the food’s safety.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on Monday, June 2, Beatrice Annan explained, “The only reason Chairman Wontumi is not eating is that he says he does not trust his own party people to bring him food.”

She added that Wontumi believes he was poisoned along with John Kumah when his party supporters brought him food in the past.

“He and John Kumah were poisoned the last time they were brought food,” she stated, citing her authority for the claim.

“So, he does not want to take food from his party people.”

Beatrice Annan, who is a lawyer, addressed claims that Wontumi’s rights had been violated., noting that “He has been presumed innocent and he will have his day in court, his right to dignity has not been violated.”

She urged Ghanaians to let the law take its course.

“I have heard in certain quarters that he is on hunger strike,” Annan said.

“I can tell you on authority that the reason for not eating is purely out of concern for his safety.”
