As the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, is ready to shine on the global stage. Head coach Carlos Queiroz, appointed in April, has assured fans that the team’s mission goes beyond competition: their duty is to bring joy to Ghanaians everywhere.
Speaking at a send-off ceremony before the team left for their training base in Rhode Island, the experienced Portuguese tactician expressed confidence in his squad despite a short preparation period.
“On behalf of my boys, I just can, as a coach, guarantee that when you finish the games, you would want to be proud of them; I am sure of that,” Queiroz said.
He added, “The great goal that we have in mind… our duty and our goal is to make people happy, and the more you can make more people happy if you win, and we are ready to do that.”
Queiroz brings his wealth of World Cup experience to Ghana, making this his fifth appearance at the tournament. He has previously led Iran in multiple editions, proving his ability to inspire teams on football’s biggest stage.
Ghana faces a challenging Group L, which includes England, Croatia, and Panama. The Black Stars kick off their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, followed by matches against England in Boston on June 23 and Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
