The King and Overlord of the Gonjaland Traditional Council, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has awarded fully funded scholarships to three students from the Savannah Region to study in China.
The scholarships, secured through the Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund, aim to empower academically gifted students from the Gonjaland kingdom to pursue tertiary education.
The selected students are Mahama Jewu Kamal-Deen, Khalid Ebu-yer Najuah, and Basiru Ekonatu Khadija.
They underwent a rigorous and transparent vetting process, competing with 41 other applicants.
The students visited the Jakpa Palace to express their gratitude to the Yagbonwura for the life-changing opportunity.
The King urged the students to be good ambassadors of Gonjaland and to use their education for the betterment of their communities.
The Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund was instituted in 2024 to support brilliant but needy students in the Gonjaland kingdom. In January this year, the fund supported 54 students financially with GHC 181,000.00.
The Coordinator of the fund, Habib Muftawu, revealed that two more students are expected to travel to the United Kingdom next year to pursue medical programs under the scholarship scheme.
The scholarship recipients will depart for China on Friday to pursue various subjects, including medicine and dentistry at Chinese universities.
The students have, however, signed an undertaking to return and serve in Gonjaland upon completion of their studies.
