Ranking Member on the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament. John Jinapor, is calling for a full-scale probe into the 5-hour nationwide blackout on Friday, July 7, 2023.
Mr. Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu believes it is unacceptable for such a power outage.
“It is unacceptable. Let’s put NDC, and NPP aside. This is unacceptable. That is why I calling for investigations into this matter so that don’t have a repeat,” he told Dr. Randy Abbey on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
He said the supposed 650MW supply gap the Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCO) claims the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) created is false.
Some parts of Ghana suffered a power outage late Friday afternoon.
In a statement on Friday, GRIDCO blamed the power outages to a shortage of gas supply from the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (GPP) and the WAPCo.
But in a counter statement, the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited debunked claims that it’s facing technical challenges which resulted in power outages in parts of the country.
