President of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association, Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
Ampofo-Ankrah succeeds Majeed Bawa, who had been serving as the interim director following the dismissal of Peter Twumasi and Dodzie Numekevor last year.
Known for his commitment to advancing beach soccer in Ghana, his appointment is widely viewed as a strategic move to rejuvenate the country’s sports sector and introduce fresh energy to an area that has long been in need of reforms.
Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah is a seasoned Ghanaian journalist with over two decades of experience in sports broadcasting, marketing, and administration. He gained prominence at Metro TV as the host of popular programs like MTN Sports Academy and Ghana Black Stars Diaries.
His exceptional contribution to sports journalism has earned him numerous accolades throughout his career, including the People’s Choice Awards, National Students Awards, and multiple Best Sports Journalist honors.
Currently serving as the Head of Sports at iMax Media Group, Ampofo-Ankrah is also the younger brother of Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, former Minister for Youth and Sports.
In his new role as Executive Director of the NSA, Ampofo-Ankrah will collaborate closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ghana Football Association, and various sporting federations to address key challenges facing Ghanaian sports, especially the poor state of national stadiums, which has often tarnished the reputation of the authority.
