“You lied, apologise” – Sammy Gyamfi fires at Oppong Nkrumah over BoG loss claims

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has called on former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah to apologise over what he describes as false claims about the 2025 audited financial statements of the Bank of Ghana.

Writing on Facebook on Sunday, May 10, 2026, GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi accused the Ofoase Ayirebi MP of misleading the public by claiming that the central bank recorded a “true operating loss” of GH¢34.9 billion in 2025.

According to him, Oppong Nkrumah is now attempting to shift the discussion by describing the figure as a “total loss” instead of an operating loss.

“Your attempt to justify the falsehoods you peddled about the 2025 audited financial statements of the BoG by shifting the goal post, is rather exposing your dishonesty,” Mr Gyamfi wrote.

He said the former minister’s original press conference on May 3 specifically referred to the GH¢34.9 billion figure as an operating loss and not total comprehensive loss.

Mr Gyamfi quoted portions of Mr Oppong Nkrumah’s earlier statement, including: “The true Operating loss of the Bank is actually GHS34.9 billion cedis.”

He argued that the NPP lawmaker had also claimed the losses could rise to GH¢44 billion if proceeds from gold sales were excluded, but has since abandoned that position after criticism.

“The 34.9 billion loss figure you put out, related to ‘operating loss’ of the BoG for 2025. Don’t shift the goal post now Chief,” he stated.

Mr Gyamfi maintained that the actual operating loss recorded in the Bank of Ghana’s 2025 audited financial statements is GH¢15.6 billion.

He added that the Other Comprehensive Income statement, which captures unrealised revaluation gains, losses and exchange differences, should not be used as the basis for assessing the financial health of the central bank.

“My brother KON, you lied! Apologize and let’s move on,” he wrote.

Mr. Gyamfi also challenged Oppong Nkrumah to a public debate on the matter, saying he was ready to defend his position on any media platform of the former minister’s choice.
