“Your Jobs Are Safe” – Ampofo Ankrah Tells NSA Employees

A group of staff at the National Sports Authority (NSA) staged a peaceful demonstration on Thursday at the Authority’s headquarters to seek clarification on directives concerning their appointments.

The affected employees, believed to be among the 17 recruits whose employment had come under recent review, expressed concern over a potential revocation of their appointments. Many of the staff highlighted that they had already contributed meaningfully to the operations of the Authority over the past months.

The situation arose following a directive from the NSA Board, which sought to verify whether the recruitment process had fully complied with established public sector regulations. Recruitment into state institutions requires clearances from relevant authorities such as the Public Service Commission and the Ministry of Finance, alongside formal vacancy advertisement and structured interviews by a constituted panel.

In the midst of the unrest, Acting Director General of the NSA, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, personally engaged the staff and provided reassurance.

“Even at this stadium, where football could not be played, you showed up and contributed,” Mr. Ankrah noted. “You are Ghanaians, and even if we set politics aside, you came when we were down, so we cannot abandon you. There has been some miscommunication and a little mischief from those spreading misinformation. Don’t fall for that. If you have questions, come and ask.”

He emphatically assured the staff: “Nobody here is going to lose their job while I am here. I will protect you.”

Ampofo Ankrah also appealed for calm, encouraging employees to allow management and the Governing Board to resolve the matter through appropriate channels.

The controversy follows a meeting between the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, and the NSA Board and management, during which employment data and recruitment processes were reviewed to ensure compliance with public sector standards.

This engagement underscores the NSA leadership’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and staff welfare while ensuring that the Authority continues to operate smoothly and maintain its focus on advancing sports development in Ghana.
