You’ve turned police into ‘Nazi Squad’ – Edudzi Tamakloe blasts IGP Dampare

Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, has launched a scathing attack on Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, over the arrest of anti-galamsey protesters.

Edudzi Tamakloe accused Dampare of transforming the police service into a “Nazi police squad” and prioritizing the arrest of lawful protesters over tackling the illicit mining menace.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, who could not fathom why peaceful protesters were apprehended, unloaded on the police capo.

“IGP Dampare, you’ve obtained a dubious distinction for your actions. With 40,000 officers and a Police Intelligence Directorate, it’s alarming that you’re arresting protesters instead of combating galamsey,” he said.

He emphasized that the international community is watching and cautioned Dampare against reducing the Ghana Police into a “regime police” or “Akufo-Addo Police.”

This criticism comes amid growing concerns over the police service’s handling of protests and its commitment to addressing the galamsey issue.

Others have also spoken out against the arrests, including maverick media personality Captain Smart, who expressed disappointment in Dampare’s failure to protect Ghanaians.

The Concerned Media for Change has leveled accusations against Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame and the Ghana Police Service, decrying the erosion of justice in the country.
