The Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has revealed that government is paying more than five hundred and twenty thousand dollars every month for services provided by Zipline under a contract signed in 2018.
He said the agreement requires the state to pay eighty eight thousand dollars a month for each of the six distribution centres operated by the company.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday, December 1, 2025, the Minister said an audit of the service has raised serious concerns about value for money.
According to him, the review showed that only twelve percent of the areas served by Zipline qualify as hard to reach.
It also found that only four percent of the deliveries made by the drone service can be classified as emergencies.
Mr Akandoh said these findings question whether the scale of payments under the contract matches the actual needs of the health system.
He noted that government must reflect on the usefulness of the agreement and make decisions that protect the public purse while ensuring timely delivery of medical supplies.
The Minister said further assessment will guide the next steps as part of efforts to strengthen accountability in the health sector.
