Bibiani Gold Stars put up yet another classic display to beat Legon Cities 4-2 at DUN’S Park on Saturday – the Bibiani lads scored in either half through Prince Kwabena Owusu to grab all the points at home.
Frimpong Manso’s side have been brilliant in recent weeks following two wins and one loss in their last three games. Bibiani Gold Stars lost 1-0 to champions Medeama SC in midweek but a haul from Prince Kwabena Owusu gave them a delightful end to 2023 at DUN’S Park.
Prince Owusu Kwabena scored three goals in 39 minutes to give his side a commanding lead in the first half before completing the haul in the second half.
Owusu opened the scoring inside 12 minutes, added the second goal in the 29th minute before completing a first half hat-trick in the 39th minute – to give the Miners a 3-0 advantage until Kwabena Boateng reduced the deficit for Legon Cities before the break.
After the interval, Prince Owusu Kwabena scored again in the 76th minute to complete his haul before Kwabena Boateng again got on target to make it 4-2 in favor of Gold Stars.
The win takes the Miners to 11th on 18 points with a game in hand as they gradually fight to avoid the drop after a shaky start to the campaign.
Legon Cities Coach Samuel Kwesi Fabin will go into the new year in 8th position with 24 points after failing to continue the clubs resurgence in recent weeks after going five gamers without defeat in the dying embers of 2023.
Elsewhere in Sunyani Asante Kotoko climbed to the second spot in the League table after a 2-0 win over Bofoakwa Tano at Coronation Park. Steven Mukwala scored two goals in either half in Sunyani to give his side a comfortable win over the returnees Saturday.
Asante Kotoko who went into the game with 4 wins, one draw in five League outings, now extend their unbeaten run to six games after the brutal win in Sunyani.
Steven Mukwala – the light of the team in recent games scored first in the 20th minute and added the second goal inside 80 minutes to wrap things up for the Porcupine Warriors.
The defeat places Bofoakwa Tano in the 14th position with 17 points, while, Asante Kotoko now moves to the second position with 29 points, three points behind leaders FC Samartex 1996 who beat Accra Lions 3-1 on Friday.
Finally, on Saturday, Champions Medeama SC grabbed a vital point up-north after drawing goalless with Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.
Medeama SC who have played four games less, sit in 9th place with 20 points – 12 points behind leaders FC Samartex 1996, while Katela United occupy the 15th position with 16 points.
