Abandonment of patient at Ojobi: It is a national disgrace – Okudzeto Ablakwa

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has expressed outrage and shock over the alleged abandonment of a patient suspected to be suffering from mental illness by the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana.

The patient, who was admitted to the hospital, was reportedly left in a wheelchair at Gomoa Ojobi after her relatives failed to show up and was later found dead.

Ablakwa described the incident as “unacceptable” and a “national disgrace.”

He vowed that Parliament would take up the matter and ensure those responsible are held accountable.

Nana Akomea, Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation, also shared his view on the incident.

He condemned the hospital’s actions, stating that they had “no excuse” to abandon the victim in such a manner.

Both Ablakwa and Akomea spoke on Good Morning Ghana on Metro Television, to express their concerns and demand action on the matter.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for improved mental healthcare and patient care in Ghana.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has initiated an investigation into the alleged abandonment of a patient in a bush at Gomoa Ojobi in the Central Region

In a statement issued on Friday, June 14, the Ghana Health Service appealed to the public to be patient as they investigate the matter, promising to take appropriate action against anyone found to be connected to the incident.

“The Service wishes to appeal to the general public to be patient as anyone found to be connected with this unfortunate incident will be severely dealt with in accordance with provisions of the Service’s Code of Conduct,” Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, Director-General of the GHS said.
