Ablakwa dares Freddie Blay to go to court over ‘state capture’ allegations

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has refused to retract his statements regarding Freddie Blay’s alleged involvement in acquiring the front space of the Labadi Beach Hotel, daring him to take legal action instead.

Ablakwa had accused Blay, the former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, and his sons of participating in a broader scheme of state capture, which Blay has denied.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Mr. Blay explained that his sons legitimately acquired the beachfront property from the La Traditional Council.

The GNPC Board Chair described Ablakwa’s allegations as “baseless” and “unfounded” and further threatened legal action if the MP and TV3 fail to apologize within a week.

“I feel very defamed, where my sons are operating is not for Labadi Beach Hotel, It is not their property and, unfortunately, Ablakwa and Johnnie are making it look like I have stolen the lands making people call me a thief. I give Okudzeto Ablakwa and the TV3 management including Jonnie Hughes one week to render an apology to me and my family or I go to court,” Mr. Blay said.

However, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has dared Mr. Blay to proceed with the legal action.

“I cannot retract the truth, Mr. Freddy Blay. Since you are getting no retraction from me, please go to court now — don’t wait for one week,” Ablakwa wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Mr. Ablakwa also announced a demonstration on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, titled ‘Hands Off our Hotels,’ promising further revelations on the issue and affirming a commitment to combating state capture.
