Agotime Signs MOU with HTU as it prepares for 2024 KENTE FESTIVAL

The Chiefs and people of the Agotime Traditional Area in the Volta Region, through their 2024 Kente Festival Entertainment Planning Committee, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Fashion Department of the Ho Technical University (HTU).

The Memorandum of Understanding includes a provision for Ho Technical University to partake in a fashion show and exhibition highlighting the unique and innovative use of Kente fabric, going beyond its traditional uses, at this year’s festival. The aim is to display the skills of the fashion design students, enhance the university’s fashion program, and select up to ten (10) students to showcase their work during the festival.

Per the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), HTU will oversee the involvement of students in the design process and guarantee their attendance and readiness. The esteemed institution’s fashion department will verify that students’ designs adhere to the theme of the event. It was mutually decided that HTU will grant permission to the Agotime Kente Festival Planning Committee to use the institution’s name and logo for promotional activities.

The Entertainment Planning Committee of the 2024 Kente Festival aims to offer an exclusive platform for students of HTU to exhibit their designs, extend essential support and resources for the event, and guarantee effective promotion and acknowledgment of HTU’s involvement. Additionally, the committee is responsible for overseeing event logistics and coordination, as well as providing the requisite equipment and facilities for the occasion.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is specifically applicable to the 2024 Kente Festival celebration exclusively, with a provision allowing either party to terminate their participation by providing written notice. Meanwhile, both parties have mutually agreed to indemnify each other against any potential claims or damages resulting from the aforementioned collaboration.

The agreement signed on Monday, June 10th, 2024, involved Mr. Norbert Kporku, Chairman of the 2024 Kente Festival Entertainment Committee, signing on behalf of the Agotime Traditional Area, and Dr. Daniel Agbeko, Head of the Fashion Department at HTU, signing on behalf of the esteemed University.
