Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, has rejected the central bank’s justification for the GH¢60 billion in 2022 and insists Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison, and his deputies must resign.
Addressing the media under the Moment of Truth series by the NDC on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at the party headquarters in Accra. Ato Forson gave the top hierarchy of the central bank a 21-day ultimatum to leave office.
According to him, Dr. Addsion and his two deputies recklessly mismanaged the Central Bank and brought it to its knees, and cannot remain at the helm of affairs of the bank.
However, the Bank of Ghana explained that several factors including the cedi depreciation, Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), and COCOBOD loans caused the loss.
The Minority Leader does not budge.
Mr. Ato Forson noted in a tweet on Thursday, August 10, that the justification by the central bank “further strengthens” the NDC’s stance that the BoG Governor and his deputies are to be blamed for the economic woes.
I’ve seen @thebankofghana attempting to justify their actions! This further strengthens our stance that Dr. Addison and his deputies (the Printers) should be held responsible for the mishandling of the central bank and their blatant disregard for our laws! #AddisonMustGo pic.twitter.com/TxvsurHTKs
