Cement regulation bill L.I compliant with constitution – Afenyo-Markin

Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, has dismissed claims that the Legislative Instrument (L.I) seeking to regulate cement pricing breaches Ghana’s constitution.

According to him, Trade and Industry Minister, K.T. Hammond, fully adhered to all proposals and amendments during the pre-laying stage.

Afenyo Markin’s comments come after former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, challenged the L.I, arguing it contradicts the Ghana Standards Authority’s mother law and must be redrawn or subjected to parliamentary input for necessary corrections.

Speaker Alban Bagbin has advised the Trade and Industry Minister KT Hammond to consider MPs’ suggestions and withdraw the L.I for relaying after necessary changes.
