CETAG defies FWSC directive, vows to continue strike

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has rejected the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission’s (FWSC) directive to call off its ongoing strike, insisting that the industrial action is legal and necessary to protect its members’ economic rights.

In an interview with Citi FM, CETAG President Prince Obeng-Himah stated that the association has not erred in declaring the strike, citing the Labour Act and the 1992 Constitution as the basis for their action.

“We haven’t erred in any way. The law is on our side. We can tell our people that the law is on our side, they should rally behind leadership. Let’s carry through with the process until such a time that the government complies,” he emphasized.

The strike, which began on June 14, affects all 46 public colleges of education in Ghana, with CETAG demanding the payment of one month’s salary for additional duties performed in 2022 and the application of agreed rates of allowances payable to public universities.
