CHURCH OF PENTECOST THROWS WEIGHT BEHIND GREEN GHANA DAY 2024; PLEDGES TO PLANT 1 MILLION TREE SEEDLINGS

The General Secretary of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Obuobi has on behalf of its Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye urged all members of the church across the country to hold themselves in readiness for the 2024 edition of the Green Ghana Day.

He said, ” As a church, we are not only interested in just saving souls but we are also interested in the environment”.

Apostle Obuobi noted that since the inception of government’s afforestation program in 2021, The Church of Pentecost has over the years been active and at the forefront of ensuring environmental sanitation across the country and pledged that the church will plant 1 million tree seedlings this year.

“The Church has recorded over 1.6 million seedlings planted with a success rate of 87 percent.”

The General Secretary indicated that, among the numerous interventions put in place by the leadership of the church, led by Apostle Eric Nyamekye, is the Environmental Care Campaign aimed at curbing environmental menace. This emanates from the Vision 2028 of The Church of Pentecost.

He said, this aspect of the vision primarily focuses on community clean-ups, education on the need to keep our environments clean, and planting of trees across the nation.

He assured that the Church of Pentecost will continue to partner with the Forestry Commission to work together to save the environment.

Apostle Dr. Samuel Gakpetor, the Chairman of the National Discipleship and Leadership Development Committee (NDLDC), of the Church of Pentecost on his part, outlined the church’s plans for the year with regards to Green Ghana Day.

He submitted to the leadership of the Forestry Commission to identify reserves to be allocated for the church to plant more tree seedlings with a focus on the Northern Region. ” Our churches in the Northern Region have secured about 262 aces of land in the North to plant on the Green Ghana Day”.

Dr. Gakpetor further stated that Principal Officers which includes the Chairman of the Church, General Secretary and other High ranking officials will liaise with traditional leaders in their communities to plant .

Stressing that the Chairman of the Church will join the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in the Ashanti Region and the General Secretary to join Ga-Mantse in Accra to plant on the Green Ghana Day .

On behalf of the Church, he also mentioned that the church is committed to to release all machinery for designing and amplifying publication of the Green Ghana Day event for a resounding success.

Mr. John Allortey, the Chief Executive Officer, revealed that this year, a minimum of 10 million seedlings will be planted and most importantly nurtured.

He called on Ghanaians to come out in their numbers to support this laudable initiative and also indicated that some pickup points such as the Forestry Commission Head Office, Districts offices , Chief Palaces, Churches, and various malls will have seedlings on or a week before the planting day.

Mr. Allotey, appealed to Executives of the Church of Pentecost to use their media house which is the “Pent TV” to leverage and communicate with the good people of Ghana.

He concluded on a good note by expressing his gratitude to the Executives of the Church and looked forward to collaborating with them on this year’s Green Ghana Day.
