Clear medical supplies from Tema Port now – Sam George to Health Ministry

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, has slammed the Ministry of Health for delaying the clearance of essential medical supplies, including treated mosquito nets, from the Tema port.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Sam George expressed outrage over the Ministry’s inaction, emphasizing that the Ministry requested the supplies from the Global Fund.

“It’s appalling that the Ministry of Health asked for the treated mosquito nets and now they’re leaving them to rot at the port,” Sam George said on Thursday, June 13.

With the rainy season approaching, Sam George warned that malaria cases will surge, posing a significant risk to pregnant women and children under 5.

“It’s a disgrace that our government and the Ministry of Health are failing to distribute these life-saving commodities to those who need them most. We demand immediate action to clear these supplies and ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries,” he added.

Sam George’s concerns are amplified by the fact that a significant portion of the supplies is expected to expire by the first quarter of 2025 if not cleared immediately.
