Court orders EC to provide Walewale NPP primaries records within 24 hours

The Tamale High Court has ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to provide the voter register and ballot boxes used in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in Walewale to the court within 24 hours.

This latest development comes after the court granted an injunction on Monday, June 24, restraining Dr. Abdul-Karibu Tia Mahama from parading himself as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Walewale.

The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hajia Lariba Zuweratu, challenged the results of the party’s primary election held in January this year, alleging electoral irregularities and misconduct.

The court’s decision to order the EC to produce the voter register and ballot boxes suggests that the legal battle is far from over, and the fate of the NPP’s parliamentary candidacy in Walewale remains uncertain.
