Court orders OSP to return Cecilia’s Dapaah’s seized money to her within 72 hours

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has withdrawn the two cases it was pursuing in an Accra High Court against Cecilia Dapaah, the former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources.

After an initial motion was denied by the court due to noncompliance, the Office had submitted a second one seeking confirmation of the seizure of $590,000 and GH₵2.73 million discovered in her residence and the freezing of her seven bank accounts.

The OSP had also prosecuted Madam Dapaah for failing to register her assets and the case was before the same court.

However, the OSP decided to withdraw the two cases against the former Minister this morning, January 25, 2024, following a meeting in chambers with the judge and the defense lawyers.

On July 24, 2023, Madam Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffuor, reported that their two housemaids had stolen large amounts of money from their home. Following this, the OSP detained Madam Dapaah on suspicion of corruption and offenses related to corruption.

The former Minister’s house was broken into and numerous millions of Ghana Cedis were taken. The two maids, Patience Botwe and Sara Agyei, together with five other accomplices, are currently on trial in an Accra Circuit Court.
