The severe floods that hit sections of the Volta Region in October of last year cost the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) GH¢2.4 million.

In addition, the floodwaters damaged GRIDCo’s bulk distribution facility in Sogakope, South Tongu district, which led to a severe power outage that affected a large area of the Volta region.

As a reaction to the crisis, ECG took calculated steps to redirect its power supply from other stations, reducing the risk of injury and property damage.

At a news conference in Ho, Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, the Regional Manager of ECG for Volta and Oti, revealed how the floods affected the company’s operations.

Jatoe-Kaleo pointed out that the floods caused power outages in towns from Adidome to Keta, therefore ECG had to rely on its Aflao station to supply electricity to the impacted areas.

She asked people to refrain from starting bushfires, especially in the dry season, in order to help protect the company’s infrastructure, notably the power poles.
