Election 2024: Bawumia briefs Majority Leader on running mate choice

Presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has held a private meeting with Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

The meeting which took place at the Vice President’s residence on Friday, June 28, saw Bawumia reveal his running mate for the forthcoming election to the Majority Leader.

The Majority Leader was tasked with relaying the crucial information to the Majority Caucus in Parliament, which he has since done.

The meeting marks a significant step in the NPP’s preparations for the general election, as Dr. Bawumia prepares to present his running mate to the party’s National Council for approval on Tuesday, July 2.

Meanwhile, Metro TV’s Presidential Affairs Correspondent, Eugenia Akorfa Kumi reported earlier this week that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has settled on Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh popularly known as NAPO as his running mate.

According to Eugenia, Dr. Bawumia presented NAPO’s name to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at a meeting on June 25, at the Jubilee House.

The President offered advice and accepted Dr Bawumia’s choice.

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, a 56-year-old medical doctor, has served as Education Minister and is widely preferred among party members, according to a recent NIB survey.
