Finance Minister to face Parliament over National Cathedral expenditure

The Finance Minister, Mohammed Amin Adam, is scheduled to appear before Parliament next Wednesday to provide a detailed briefing on the total expenses incurred on the national cathedral project.

Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, disclosed this in response to a question from the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Mr. Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa, who sought clarification on the expenditures made on the project.

Deputy Majority Leader, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, has filed an urgent question demanding a breakdown of expenses and whether a value-for-money audit was conducted.

Afenyo Markin emphasized that the government must adhere to proper financial structures in the Finance Ministry for such an important project.

The National Cathedral of Ghana is a planned interdenominational Christian cathedral intended to be situated in Accra as part of Ghana’s 60th anniversary celebration. The design for the cathedral was unveiled by President Nana Akufo-Addo in March 2018. The site will also house a music school, an art gallery, and a museum dedicated to the Bible.
