Freddie Blay threatens to sue Ablakwa, TV3 over ‘baseless’ state capture claims

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Freddie Blay has given North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and TV3 a one-week ultimatum to retract allegations of state capture and corruption against him and his family.

Blay, who chairs the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), denies accusations that his sons acquired beachfront property illegally, stressing that they legitimately bought the land from the La Traditional Council.

He claims Ablakwa’s allegations are “baseless” and “unfounded” and has threatened legal action if the MP and TV3 fail to apologize within a week.

Ablakwa had alleged that Blay’s sons acquired interest in portions of the beachfront, which has been under the management of Labadi Beach Hotel, perpetuating a grand scheme of state capture.

However, Blay insists his sons’ interest in the property is lawful and challenges the hotel to take legal action if it feels its rights have been infringed upon.

“Impression being made by Okudzeto Ablakwa and unfortunately by some pressmen by Johnnie Hughes and tv3 management making Ghanaians know that those doing legitimate business without stepping on anybody’s shoes is an illegality, is unfortunate,” the GNPC Board Chair told Oyerepa FM.

“I feel very defamed,” Mr. Blay said, adding” where my sons are operating is not for Labadi Beach Hotel, It is not their property and, unfortunately, Ablakwa and Johnnie are making it look like I have stolen the lands making people call me a thief. I give Okudzeto Ablakwa and the TV3 management including Jonnie Hughes one week to render an apology to me and my family or I go to court”.
