Government declares Monday, June 17 as holiday for Eid-Ul-Adha

Government has declared Monday, June 17, 2024,, as a statutory public holiday.

This is to mark the Eid-Ul-Adha, which falls on Sunday, June 16, 2024, and is a statutory public holiday.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Interior Ministry and signed by the sector mister, Henry Quartey on June 11, 2024.

“However, in view of the fact that 16th June, 2024 falls on a Sunday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.I), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, (Act 601) declared Monday, 17th June, 2024 as an additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement noted.

The Minister emphasized that this holiday should be observed nationwide.

Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant festivals in Islam.

It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. The day emphasises the importance of obedience, trust, and devotion to God.
