GRIDCo blames Thursday ‘dumsor’ on faulty transmission line

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO) says a major system disturbance led to a power supply interruption in parts of the country,

The incident, which occurred at 14:41 hours on Thursday, affected consumers in Accra, Western, and Northern regions.

According to GRIDCO, the Accra Central – Achimota Line tripped due to a fault, causing other transmission lines to also trip. This resulted in generating stations at Aboadze, Kumasi, and Tema tripping.

“We apologize for the inconveniences caused to all affected consumers. Restoration commenced immediately, and efforts are underway to restore supply to all affected areas,” said Dzifa Bampoh, Manager of Corporate Communications at GRIDCO.

GRIDCO assured it is working to rectify the situation, “We are working diligently to restore power supply as soon as possible. We understand the impact of this disturbance on our customers and are committed to providing a reliable and stable power supply.”

The company has urged customers to report any power-related issues to their customer service centers.

GRIDCO operates the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS) and transmits electricity to 32 bulk customers and distribution utilities from 11 wholesale suppliers, including the Volta River Authority (VRA).
