A criminal law practitioner, Lawyer Augustines Obuor, has appealed to Ghanaians to be patient with the authorities regarding the prosecution of the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.

He explained that a murder investigation is a complex and lengthy process that requires sufficient evidence and witnesses to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The attorney general’s statement that his office has not received any docket fit for prosecution does not imply that the case is closed, but rather that the investigation is still ongoing.” He said.

Ahmed Suale, who worked with the Tiger Eye investigative team, was shot dead by two unknown assailants on a motorbike near his home in Madina, Accra, on January 16, 2019. His murder sparked outrage and condemnation from local and international media and human rights groups, who called for swift action to find and punish the killers.

The attorney general, Godfred Yeboah Dame, told parliament on Tuesday that the criminal investigations department of the Ghana Police Service is handling the matter and that no document suitable for prosecution has been presented to his office yet.

Lawyer Obuor urged the public to trust the police and the attorney general to do their work diligently and professionally, and to refrain from speculating or spreading rumours about the case. He said that he believes that justice will be served eventually and that the murder of Ahmed Suale will not go unpunished.
