Majority Leader urges ceasefire in intrapy riivalry after Bawumia chooses NAPO

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmakers and supporters to avoid infighting ahead of the party’s running mate official announcement.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the need for unity within the party, particularly as the 2024 elections approach.

He encouraged NPP MPs to be mindful of their public statements and comments regarding the running mate selection.

“We are in this together, and no one is perfect. Let’s be careful how we describe each other and the language we use,” he advised.

Afenyo-Markin assured his colleagues that the flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in consultation with party elders, would make a decision beneficial to the party.

This comes after reports emerged that Dr. Bawumia had presented Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as his choice of running mate to President Akufo-Addo.

However, some party members, including Andy Appiah-Kubi, MP for Asante Akim North, have expressed disapproval of the selection.

Appiah-Kubi argued that Dr. Opoku Prempeh may not be acceptable to the entire NPP base and lacks the ability to campaign effectively in many constituencies.
