Minister, GES commiserate with Koforidua SECTECH after fatal crash involving staff

The Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong, accompanied by the Regional Director of Ghana Education Service, and the leadership of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of Ghana Trades Union Congress have commiserated with Koforidua Secondary Technical School (SECTECH) following a fatal crash thrat led to the death of kitchen staff and multiple injuries of other members.

The accident occurred on Saturday morning when the school bus transporting about 50 staff of the school to Akwamufie to attend the funeral of a colleague’s wife at Akwamufie in the Asuogyaman District.

The driver lost control of the steering wheel while descending into a sharp curve on Aseseeso to Somanya Road.

According to one of the surviving victims, Prince Appiah, the driver was speeding and hence lost control at the curve however did extremely well preventing the bus from plunging into a deep hole which would have been disastrous.

Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong commiserated with the staff, students, and bereaved families on Monday morning.

He and the entourage also visited six victims still on admission at the Eastern Regional Hospital.

The Eastern Regional Director of Education Mrs. Ivy Owusu Asantewa described the accident as unfortunate.

He said capacity-building programs are continuously held for drivers and other staff to reduce such crashes.
