Our home-based players are barbers and shoemakers – Ghana Amputee Coach

Coach Richard Obeng of the Ghana Amputee Football team has expressed disappointment at the lack of support from the government since their victorious return from the African Amputee Football Nation Cup in Cairo, Egypt.

Speaking on Original FM’s Super Sports Show on Thursday morning, Coach Obeng lamented that the team had not received any financial support from the government, despite their outstanding performance, which saw them win gold for the second consecutive time.

He compared the treatment of the Ghanaian team to that of the Angolan team, which finished second in the tournament.

“Each player from the Angolan team was given a house and a car to improve their lives, but our local-based players are still struggling, working as barbers and shoemakers,” he said.

The team has received donations from well-wishers but is yet to receive any support from the government or sports ministry.

Coach Obeng’s concerns come amidst controversy surrounding a $100,000 reward from former President John Dramani Mahama, with the Sports Minister requesting an expenditure plan for the funds.
