Parliament begins to vet president’s ministerial nominees

The newly constituted Appointments Committee has began vetting the Ministerial nominees designated to various Ministries by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

At the consideration of the nominees, the Chairman of the Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, and the Members vetted five nominees.

The nominees were Andrew Egyapa Mercer: Minister-designate Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Lydia Seyram Alhassan: Minister-designate Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah: Minister designate Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Ophelia Mensah Hayford: Minister designate Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and lastly Dakoa Newman: Minister designate Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

The nominees were quizzed on pertinent issues surrounding their new Ministries, the solutions they can offer within the next eight months and their personal views on the recent passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill (Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill).

The Committee is expected to continue the vetting of the nominees on Thursday 7th March 2024.
