Police, Fire Service receive donations as Agotime prepares towards 2024 Agbamevo

Youth of the Agotime traditional area of the Volta Region, have expressed appreciation to individuals from the area who continue to support the development of Agotime.

This follows a donation exercise embarked upon by Cephas Kafui Apenuvor, Chief Executive Officer of D-Rush Lodge.  A businessman with a passion for community development, Cephas Kafui Apenuvor accompanied by Apostle T. E. K. Apenuvor and Irene Apenuvor, donated some items to some government institutions and the okada riders Association in the area.

The Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service received a motorcycle each from the philanthropist. This is to assist the two institutions with transportation issues since some communities in the Agotime area are hard to reach.

Reflectors were also donated to the ‘Okada’ Association. Due to its location, Agotime relies much on ‘okada’ as a means of transportation.

Meanwhile, the Agotime Traditional Area has commenced with some activities towards the celebration of this year’s Agotime Kente Festival also known as the Agbamevo Festival.

The Agbamevo Festival

The Agotime Kente Festival, also known as Agbamevo Festival, is a week-long annual festival that takes place in August in the town of Kpetoe, the seat of the traditional area. The festival was established in 1995 to celebrate and promote the Kente weaving industry in the Agotime area. Some key events and attractions that mark the festival include competitions where the fastest weavers and the most innovative designs are awarded.

Kente exhibitions are another key event that showcases a wide range of Kente designs and patterns, including old and new clothes. The firing of musketry is done where it features a firing of musketry display. One important key event as part of competitions is the dance competition. It features drumming and dancing and showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Agotime people.

There is also a Grand durbar where chiefs, queen mothers, and the people of the 37 towns and villages of Agotime come together to climax the celebration. The 2024 Agbamevo festival shall put on display, the history of the kente cloth and some other very insightful cultural displays.
