Minister of Trade and Industry, Kwabena Tahiru Hammond, has reaffirmed his commitment to laying the Cement Price Regulation Bill before Parliament, despite a disagreement with cement manufacturers over a closed-door meeting.
Hammond explained that his ministry has been engaging stakeholders since January 2024 to ensure the regulation of cement prices through Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2480.
The Minister is determined to proceed with the laying of the bill, which aims to regulate cement prices and ensure a fair market for all stakeholders.
Speaking with Original TV’s Afia Kwarteng in an interview on the Adwene Pa, the Trade Minister also debunked reports that five cement manufacturers, including Dangote, Supacem, Ghacem, Diamond Cement, and CIMAF, boycotted a planned meeting with Trade and Industry Minister KT Hammond on Monday, July 1, 2024, to discuss a proposed Legislative Instrument (LI) to regulate cement prices.
According to KT Hammond, the manufacturers requested a closed-door meeting, which was misconstrued as a boycott.
