AFCON 2023: Tom Saintfiet quits as The Gambia boss after group-stage exit

Gambia coach Tom Saintfiet has resigned from his position following the country’s poor performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Gambia lost all their three games in the group stage despite coming close at a point to seal qualification.

In the game against Cameroon, Gambia came from behind to lead 2-1 but an own goal from James Gomez and a late winner Christopher Wooh helped the Indomitable Lions to progress.

Gambia lost their opening-day game 3-0 against Senegal before narrowly losing 1-0 to Guinea in the second game of the group.

In total, they scored two goals and conceded seven after three games.

Rumour has it that Ghana coach Chris Hughton is likely to resign after failing to guide the Black Stars qualify from a group that consisted of Cape Verde, Mozambique, and Egypt, picking only two points in the process.
