AFCON 2023:Two African countries have been shortlisted for Black Stars camping base- Henry Asante

 Head of Communications of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Henry Asante Twum has said his outfit is in talks with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to decide on a Black Stars campaign based ahead of the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to him, South Africa is one of the countries being considered but they are still in talks with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to arrive at a final decision.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is considering so many factors and is currently in talks with the Sports Ministry to decide on the Black Stars camping base. At the moment two places are been considered in which South Africa is part,” Henry Asante Twum told Gideon Okyere Anim(Gattuso) on Supersports on Accra-based Original FM 91.9.

For the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghana coach Chris Hughton has submitted a 55-man preliminary squad.

The provisional squad, which will be cut down to a final squad of 27, was published on CAF’s website on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.

The Black Stars are paired in a tricky Group B, which also contains record champions Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.

Among those included in Ghana’s provisional squad are the usual suspects, Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Kudus, and Daniel Amartey.
