African Para Games 2023: South Africa, Angola seal wheelchair basketball places

South Africa maintained a 100% after their fourth and final qualification game to seal a place at the upcoming 2023 African Paralympic Games after finishing first from the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation Africa Southern Region Qualifiers in Johannesburg.

Angola joins South Africa at the African Para Games in Ghana later this year after finishing in the top two at the Vodacom Mandeville Indoor Sports Centre in the South African city.

South Africa triumphed over Angola in the final qualifying game 45-41 in a keenly contested match, the hosts rallying from a 35-31 deficit to win the tie.

Zambia, the only other country in the qualification round, failed to win a single game, losing all three of their qualifying matches.

South Africa walloped Zambia 80-14 on the event’s opening day before recording another emphatic 83-10 win over the same opponents a day later.

Angola also replicated South Africa’s feat against Zambia, handing them their biggest defeat in Johannesburg by beating them 103-15 in their matchup.

The maiden edition of the African Para Games is set to take place in Accra, slated for the 3rd to 12th of September, despite the African Games being postponed due to financial problems in Ghana.
