Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II, the paramount chief of Sefwi wiawso traditional area presented two items to the former president of Ghana, His excellency John Dramani Mahama as he paid a homage to the president of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council on his tour in the Western North Region.
It has been the norm and traditions to always pay homage to the overlord or the highest stool when you appear to be on the land within his jurisdiction. As part of the protocol, businessmen, politicians, civil servants, religious leaders etc respectfully does so to introduce not only their presence but to present their agenda or reasons for coming and also solicit ideas from the Traditional Authorities.
It also serves as a forum for the traditional leaders to present their grievances, ideas and blessings on the individual.
On, 13th December, 2023, the former President and the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), One of the biggest political parties in Ghana does same for a two days tour in the newly created Western North Region and in Sefwi Wiawso Traditional area. The Overlord of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional area indicated that, he will appreciate the restoration of some traditional political powers that has been taken away from traditional leaders by the state which makes it difficult in the administration of their chiefdoms or communities. These has resulted in recalcitrant and deviancy in our communities.
Secondly, Katakyie indicated that, the western North Region was created by Nana Akuffo Addo and the NPP government but unfortunately, the President has not been able to finish all the developmental projects in the region to make it compete with other regions like Ashanti and Greater Accra and will appreciate he continues such developmental projects if he get the chance to lead the country as president for the second time.
The Paramount chief is much aware of the Ghanaian political traditions of abandoning projects that wasn’t started with the government in power and was appealing to the former President to continue to develop the region if giving the chance even though it wasn’t created by his government but never in anyway said the NPP government only created the region but never developed it.
Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II and other traditional leaders in western North Region always express their gratitude to his excellence Nana Akuffo Addo for taken a bold step to create the western North Region and ensuring it development. These developments are witnessed in bringing governmental departments closer to it people with the establishment of Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in the Region, Regional Security Headquarters in the Region, Military Barracks in the Region, Regional Health Directorate, Regional Education, Regional Agric, Regional forestry, construction of major high ways in the region, regional capital town roads under construction including some feeder roads, state housing, Regional House of chiefs, Regional Lands commission etc.
Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II and Nananom are much grateful and do appreciate these developments in the region as a result of the creation of the region.
It is undeniable fact that no government has been able to provide all the developmental needs and projects of the people in a Region or the state.
Governance is continuity but we sometimes don’t witness these continuity of governance in our part of the world and projects are abandoned simply because it wasn’t started with the government in power.
Besides, it is also a fact that all government in Ghana including dictators or those who came through coup d’etat in one way or the other undertook developmental projects or help in the development of the state.
