ASA Savings and Loans organises free eye and medical screening for Nungua market traders

Over 200 people, made up of the aged, young adults, and children, have benefited from a free eye and other medical screening exercise carried out by ASA Savings and Loans at Nungua, in the Greater Accra Region.

The beneficiaries had their eyes tested and screened for issues of malaria, hepatitis B, diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol.

The event, which is organized annually throughout the company’s business centers and branches across the country, forms part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

For the prevention of mosquito bites, Insecticide Treated Nets were distributed to each person during the screening.

Beneficiaries of the health screening exercise

The Medical Doctor of Modern Care Clinic,  Akugri  Abdul Rahaman, who was in charge of the screening exercise disclosed that most of the people screened had eye-related ailments, while some tested positive for malaria and a few others also tested for hepatitis B.

Malaria had 6 positive cases, 2 positive hepatitis B cases, 25% of those screened were diabetic, and a 23.6% hypertensive rate.

He said medications were given to people according to the kind of disease identified in them and they were encouraged to sleep in Insecticide Treated Nets as well as seek medical attention whenever they were not well.

Beneficiaries of the health screening exercise

Free drugs were given to them according to the type of ailments while those whose conditions were critical, were referred to medical centers for treatment.

He advised the partakers to exercise regularly, check their diets, eat well-balanced meals regularly, and take in a lot of fruits and water to boost their immune system.

Madam Zalia Alhassan, Area Manager of ASA for the enclave, who supervised the medical screening exercise was elated at the number of people who showed up and assured them of the company’s continued support to the society.

The Assistant Branch Manager of the Nungua branch, Awal Baba Nabila entreated the participants to check on their health regularly to know their health status.
